Infra-Red by The Dave Pike Set
Infra-Red stands as a testament to the innovative spirit of its creators. Led by vibraphonist Dave Pike, along with guitarist Volker Kriegel, J. A. Rettenbacher on bass and Peter Baumeister on drums, the band works together weaving intricate melodies and captivating rhythms throughout each composition. Attributed to their long residency in Frankfurt, The Dave Pike Set accumulated great commercial successes in Germany and throughout Europe until their mastery was recognized throughout the rest of the world.
You can get Infra-Red exclusively in set store as LP and CD.
Tristeza On Guitar by Baden Powell
Brazilian guitar maestro Baden Powell’s seminal years with producer Joachim-Ernst Berendt and MPS stretch from 1966 to 1975, with a total of two sets of three LPs. Tristeza On Guitar was the beginning of this nine-year collaboration. The repertoire is in no way characterized by sadness, as the title might cause one to believe. It embraces a sublime spectrum ranging from a ritual feel to exuberant carnival atmosphere on through to intimate songs with a singable quality.
Tristeza On Guitar is available as a limited, special edition red transparent vinyl.
Walking The Line by Oscar Peterson
After the legendary “Exclusively For My Friends” recordings, the partnership between Hans Georg Brunner-Schwer and the Canadian piano giant continued; nine new albums followed between 1969 and 1971. Walking The Line was recorded in the middle of this end-phase of their work together. Hubertus Mall’s impressive cover drawing of Peterson is an added bonus to the album. Peterson, bassist Jiri Mraz, and drummer Ray Price are perfectly attuned to one another, while the pianist has sought out an original repertoire, framed by two Cole Porter Classics.
You can get Walking The Line as a limited coke bottle green transparent vinyl.
Intercontinental by Joe Pass
“Joe Pass looks like somebody’s uncle and plays guitar like nobody’s business.” So said New York Magazine about the man considered to be one of the greatest jazz guitarists of the 20th century. Pass’s masterful melodic counterpoint and quicksilver improvisational style flow throughout “Intercontinental”. Deftly accompanied by German bass virtuoso Eberhard Weber and English drummer Kenny Clare, the music runs the gamut of genres – a meditative Jobim bossa nova, a lusciously relaxed version of the jazz standard, “Stompin’ at the Savoy”, a blues-drenched rendition of the Bobby Gentry pop classic, “Ode to Belly Joe”, and a display of dynamically controlled guitar pyrotechnics on the exhilarating “I Love You”.
Intercontinental is available as Curacao (blue) transparent vinyl.
The Way I Really Play by Oscar Peterson
With Sam Jones and Bobby Durham, Peterson’s new, permanent trio line-up crystallized on the third consecutive MPS album. “The best trio I’ve ever had,” the Canadian remarked, raving about the immediate sense of unity that developed. On this recording the immense musicianship throughout the whole band can be heard with stellar sound quality: MPS founder Hans Georg Brunner-Schwer was known for his precise recording technique and the resulting sound was liked by many musicians who recorded on the label.
The Way I Really Play is finally available as stand-alone LP again.
My Favorite Instrument by Oscar Peterson
Amid the trio recordings of the Exclusively For My Friends series, this album stands out as a special highlight. It is Peterson’s very first solo album, where he can, in the truest sense of the word, play freely across the entire keyboard of his abilities – spurred on by the ideal recording conditions he found in Hans Georg Brunner-Schwer’s Villingen studio. It’s no surprise that these recordings are still considered a revelation for Peterson fans today, as all of his skills can be studied exemplarily across the nine tracks.
Finally My Favorite Instrument is also available as stand-alone LP again.
